Thursday 4th April at 10h30 at Buitenverwachting Restaurant

Lars Maack owner of Buitenverwachting is a Coffee Connoisseur so much so that on meeting Warren Machanik a man who is passionate about coffee they put their heads together and joined forces…  The result was that Lars built a roastery to house Quaffee Warren’s excellent Coffee operation that is on a continuing quest to source and enjoy fine QUAlity coFFEE, traceable back to the growers all over the world... then sharing it with other coffee lovers.

This all led to the dawn of the popular Coffee BloC – specialities are - coffee and cakes… new on the menu, divine breakfasts and light lunches.

Kerstin Mercer is a Story Teller par excellence (with a Masters in Drama) and is extremely interesting!  She has made it her business to learn all about coffee: its tastes, its stories and more…

She will be with us at Buitenverwachting Restaurant to make our journey into the Coffee Culture more exciting and erudite.  You will thoroughly enjoy her stories which span the coffee production to consumption spectrum as diversely as her career and travels.

You will taste four coffees paired to bites all of them superb!
You will be regaled with fascinating information about each!

Lunch with NoMU at Buitenverwachting

Look forward to a fabulous afternoon! With Paul and Tracy of NoMU

When:                  Thursday 14 February March

Where:                 Buitenverwachting Restaurant

Time:                    12 noon for 12h30

The opportunity to meet and hear an exciting, entrepreneurial husband and wife team.

Paul Raphaely and his wife, Tracy Foulkes, are the team behind NoMU, a local range of food and lifestyle products.

The story behind the growth of their company and their relationship is fascinating.  While the NoMU range of products is exported to 38 countries, Tracy’s primary focus is new product development. She runs NoMU in partnership with her husband and head of marketing, Paul Raphaely. Tracy and Paul live in Cape Town, with their two children, two dogs, a bond and a frustratingly long list of things they never seem to get to.

Tracy has partnered with Penguin Books SA to produce another innovative first for South Africa – the NoMU Recipe Box.  A few special recipes are included and one can add to them...

Buitenverwachting Restaurant exudes style; it is light and airy and decorated in inviting shades of cream with earthy highlights. Rated as one of the top restaurants in Cape Town, a meal there is always memorable.

Talented Chef Edgar Osojnik has created a mouth watering menu for the luncheon which will be accompanied by elegant Buitenverwachting wine.  The fully inclusive price is R250 per person.

Lunch with Paul Hoffman

Up to the minute, informative and enjoyable.
Relax with a delicious luncheon at a top restaurant.
A great speaker is the ‘cherry on top’.

Guest speaker, Adv. Paul Hoffman SC is a fascinating man.  Brilliant and unconventional you will thoroughly enjoy his talk.  He will take questions. His topic…

Musings of a Maverick Silk

Where:             Buitenverwachting Restaurant
When:              Thursday 22 November 2012
Time:               12 for 12.30

Advocate Paul Hoffman completed his BA LLB at Wits in 1974 and pursued a successful career in many aspects of the legal profession. He took silk in 1995 and continued to practice at the Cape Bar where he headed its advocacy skills training programme.  Three successive Judges President of the Cape High Court invited him to grace their Bench as an Acting Judge.
In 2006, after twenty six years of membership, he left the Cape Bar in order to take up an appointment as Director of the Centre of Constitutional Rights.  Its mission to uphold the Constitution dovetails with his personal commitment to the rule of law and the promotion of constitutional democracy.  As director he wrote widely on threats to the Constitution and appeared in the Constitutional Court as amicus curiae.

Since January 2009 he has been pursuing his passion for exacting accountability by setting up IFAISA the Institute for Accountability in Southern Africa.  He is probably best known for representing Bob Glenister on corruption matters and Terry Crawford Browne in his campaign to get a commission of inquiry into the arms deals.

Browsing the web I came across an open letter he wrote to President Zuma in October this year which he startsWhile it is clearly indisputable that a great deal of progress has been made with the implementation of the type of constitutional democracy envisaged in the final Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, which has been in force since February 1997, recent developments suggest that all is not well in the land.

A rare opportunity to meet one of South Africa’s finest legal brains.

Chef Edgar is creating another superb menu which will be circulated shortly. There is a small increase in the cost of the luncheon.  R250 per person fully inclusive.

Call me on 021 685 8016 or email sandybailey@telkomsa.net for information or to book.
