Lunch with Paul Hoffman

Up to the minute, informative and enjoyable.
Relax with a delicious luncheon at a top restaurant.
A great speaker is the ‘cherry on top’.

Guest speaker, Adv. Paul Hoffman SC is a fascinating man.  Brilliant and unconventional you will thoroughly enjoy his talk.  He will take questions. His topic…

Musings of a Maverick Silk

Where:             Buitenverwachting Restaurant
When:              Thursday 22 November 2012
Time:               12 for 12.30

Advocate Paul Hoffman completed his BA LLB at Wits in 1974 and pursued a successful career in many aspects of the legal profession. He took silk in 1995 and continued to practice at the Cape Bar where he headed its advocacy skills training programme.  Three successive Judges President of the Cape High Court invited him to grace their Bench as an Acting Judge.
In 2006, after twenty six years of membership, he left the Cape Bar in order to take up an appointment as Director of the Centre of Constitutional Rights.  Its mission to uphold the Constitution dovetails with his personal commitment to the rule of law and the promotion of constitutional democracy.  As director he wrote widely on threats to the Constitution and appeared in the Constitutional Court as amicus curiae.

Since January 2009 he has been pursuing his passion for exacting accountability by setting up IFAISA the Institute for Accountability in Southern Africa.  He is probably best known for representing Bob Glenister on corruption matters and Terry Crawford Browne in his campaign to get a commission of inquiry into the arms deals.

Browsing the web I came across an open letter he wrote to President Zuma in October this year which he startsWhile it is clearly indisputable that a great deal of progress has been made with the implementation of the type of constitutional democracy envisaged in the final Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, which has been in force since February 1997, recent developments suggest that all is not well in the land.

A rare opportunity to meet one of South Africa’s finest legal brains.

Chef Edgar is creating another superb menu which will be circulated shortly. There is a small increase in the cost of the luncheon.  R250 per person fully inclusive.
