Cathy Marston is a recognised wine expert, a Platter Wine Guide taster, the wine writer for food24.com, the Cape Times and Wine Spectator – she also runs certified wine courses all over the country.

Cathy hails from Yorkshire, UK and after completing her degree in English at Cambridge University, she joined Adnams Wine Merchants, passing all the Wine & Spirit Education Trust exams, culminating in Diploma. She came to SA in 2001 and opened and ran The Nose Restaurant & Wine Bar, selling it after seven successful years. Cathy now concentrates on tasting, writing for local and international publications and educating people about wine. She is an associate of the Institute of Wines & Spirits and is currently the only Approved Programme Provider in Africa for the internationally-recognised Wine & Spirit Education Trust.

Love Your Wine is her first book.

Cathy takes you on a wine appreciation journey from easy drinking sweets, through the popular sauvignon blancs, bubblies, dessert wines and on to the fuller reds, with the sole aim of giving you confidence in your wine choices. The real secret of wine success is that the more you drink, the more you know. Admittedly, the less you probably remember, but hey – you can’t have everything.

This promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable luncheon.

Tim Butcher the best-selling British travel writer and broadcaster who is based in Cape Town will be talking about his recently released book The Trigger.   We loved him at Thursday Club when he launched his absorbing first book, Blood River shortly after he and his family had come to  live in South Africa.  We also had the pleasure of launching his second book, Chasing the Devil – The Search for Africa’s Fighting Spirit - a passionate and exciting adventure story.

Tim is one of the most exciting speakers we have had the good fortune of hosting. Be sure to book early for the rare opportunity of listening to this man of great courage and talent.

The Trigger, his third book was launched in the UK in March.  It has been well received and has had great reviews. 

On a summer morning in Sarajevo a hundred years ago, a teenage assassin named Gavrilo Princip fired not just the opening shots of the First World War but the starting gun for modern history, when he killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Yet the events Princip triggered were so monumental that his own story has been largely overlooked, his role garbled and motivations misrepresented. Tim Butcher will share the results of years of research, including the discovery of Princip papers missed by a century of historians, to fill out as never before the assassin who changed all of our lives.
