Tim Butcher the best-selling British travel writer and broadcaster who is based in Cape Town will be talking about his recently released book The Trigger.   We loved him at Thursday Club when he launched his absorbing first book, Blood River shortly after he and his family had come to  live in South Africa.  We also had the pleasure of launching his second book, Chasing the Devil – The Search for Africa’s Fighting Spirit - a passionate and exciting adventure story.



Tim is one of the most exciting speakers we have had the good fortune of hosting. Be sure to book early for the rare opportunity of listening to this man of great courage and talent.

The Trigger, his third book was launched in the UK in March.  It has been well received and has had great reviews. 

On a summer morning in Sarajevo a hundred years ago, a teenage assassin named Gavrilo Princip fired not just the opening shots of the First World War but the starting gun for modern history, when he killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Yet the events Princip triggered were so monumental that his own story has been largely overlooked, his role garbled and motivations misrepresented. Tim Butcher will share the results of years of research, including the discovery of Princip papers missed by a century of historians, to fill out as never before the assassin who changed all of our lives.

David Cameron chose it as one of his 5 books to take on holiday in July.

The Trigger, retails in South Africa at R315 but will be available at the lunch for R250. Payment will be by cash on the day of the talk or by EFT/bank transfer subsequently.
