Pieter de Villiers and Gavin Rich in Conversation at Buitenverwachting

Random House Struik have published the autobiography of controversial ex Springbok coach Pieter de Villiers; Politically Incorrect was written with popular Rugby journalist Gavin Rich; they will be in conversation at our next luncheon…

DATE:                                    Tuesday 26 June 2012
TIME:                                    12H00 for 12h30
VENUE:                                Buitenverwachting Restaurant
SPEAKER:                            Gavin Rich in conversation with Pieter de Villiers

Please note this luncheon takes place on a Tuesday instead of a Thursday.

Throughout his tenure as the first black Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers was in the news, and not always for the right reasons.  His battle to be accepted and respected by the rugby fraternity started from the moment his appointment was announced. In his four years as Bok coach, de Villiers experienced huge successes but he also suffered the ignominy of coming last in the Tri Nations and seeing his World Cup dream shattered by the controversial officiating of referee Bryce Lawrence.

A personal account of his life and career that is as candid, honest and forthright as the man himself, in the nature of the man, this is both a rugby and political book.
Politically Incorrect was written with highly regarded rugby writer Gavin Rich who won the Sasol Springbok Rugby writer of the Year award in 2010.  Gavin was for many years one of Pieter de Villiers’ harshest critics.
They will be in conversation and will take questions.  This promises to be one of our most fascinating luncheons for many years.

Edgar will be spoiling us with a very special menu which I will send out in the next few days.  As always Lars will be spoiling us with a glass or two of Buitenverwachting’s award winning wines. The fully inclusive cost of the luncheon is R225 per person.  Menu available on request.

VIDA E CAFFE BLOOP!

The other day it was freezing! I was shopping in Cavendish and popped in for one of my favourite Hot Chocolates at Vida e Caffe....  Imagine how shocked I was to receive my drink in a chipped cup by a Barrista who had a heavy sneezing cold...

WHAT IS THE THURSDAY CLUB?

Not really a club, but a group of people who get together on average once per month, usually on a Thursday and run by me.

We meet at a top restaurant in the Constantia Valley where we have a good lunch with some superb wine from the Valley and an interesting and topical speaker.

There is no joining fee; people are either referred or hear about it and go on the mailing list.  A monthly newsletter tells members who the speaker is and where we will be meeting.  To join contact sandybailey@telkomsa.net

Twice a year we do a fundraiser one for the Darling Trust and one for St Lukes Hospice.

Some past speakers; Clem Sunter, Pieter-Dirk Uys, David Klatzow, Tim Noakes, Ina Paarman; we do repeat speakers that have something new to tell us.
