Barbara Kingsolver and her husband are visiting South Africa and we have the pleasure of hosting her.  It is also our first get together this year and we would like to take this opportunity of wishing all a happy and successful 2015.

Kingsolver was named one of the most important writers of the 20th Century by Writers Digest.  In 2000 she received the National Humanities Medal, America’s highest honour for service through the arts. Critical acclaim for her books includes multiple awards from the American Booksellers Association and the American Library Association, among many others.

The Poisonwood Bible was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the Orange Prize, and won the national book award of South Africa before being named an Oprah Book Club selection. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle won numerous prizes including the James Beard Award. The Lacuna won Britain’s prestigious Orange Prize for Fiction in 2010. In 2011, Kingsolver was awarded the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for the body of her work.

Kingsolver has been honoured by her peers and embraced by readers as one of the most popular literary novelists of modern times. The Dallas Morning News called her latest novel,  Flight Behaviour" as close to a truly perfect book as I have ever read."

Exclusive Books Cavendish will have a selection of her books on sale for those who would like to buy any of them.

The menu is a starter and a main course with coffee to follow. There will be a limited cash bar on the day; the Kelvin House Wine is reasonable and highly recommended.  As always a Vegetarian option is available, please let us know any dietary preferences when making your booking.

Another Kingsolver quote from her book Animal Dreams

“The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. The most you can do is live inside that hope, running down its hallways, touching the walls on both sides.”
