‘A must read for any true rugby supporter’ – Nick Mallett
Liz McGregor is a veteran author and journalist who
started off her career on leading South African newspapers. She spent two years
behind the scenes interviewing the players, coaches, wives and girlfriends,
mothers and teachers. She also spoke to the Bok doctor and physio, the
sponsors, brand managers and the logistics guy. And then there’s the boss, the
South African Rugby Union. What she discovered is as fascinating as it is
complex.
Who can forget the excitement of the 1995 World Cup? The
Soccer World Cup in 2010? The send-off of the Springboks to the 2011 World Cup?
What makes a champion sports star? Liz McGregor has found
the answers which she gives in her book; they probably apply to winning in most
spheres and are of interest to all parents and grandparents.
Edgar’s menu follows; a vegetarian option is available,
as always it is superb, as are the Buitenverwachting wines which will accompany
the lunch.
